Foamie goes Giant Scale!

This ship originated early in 1998 as an experiment in really large foamie designs and turned out to work rather well. This is a unique, rugged and versatile sailplane, and can be sloped, aerotowed or winch launched. If you're interested in getting the feel of larger scale sailplanes, learning to aerotow, or just want a large scale plane to fly at your less manicured flying sites, the Ka6E could be for you. The big, gentle flying characteristics, aerobatic capability and realistic fixed wheel landing gear make this plane a real treat to fly.

Construction is about a 35 hour project, although undoubtedly some of you guys will be a little faster, others a little slower. There's nothing exotic involved, and if you've built other DAW kits, this one will present familiar methods and materials. The larger planes are actually a little easier in some respects, as tolerances aren't so tight and the parts aren't as delicate as the usual 48" to 78" foamies.

The airframe breaks down into four pieces; two wing halves, the fuselage with fin attached, and the stabilizer. This allows the whole works to fit in a 12" square X 60" long box that's within the size limit to ship via the Postal Service. Since it's a foamie, you can just pack it up and mail it ahead to your travel destination and have a low maintenance, large size plane at the ready for your trip!

If you do place an order for one of these kits, be sure to include a phone number or E-mail address; we think we can provide a 5 to 7 day turnaround for shipping from receipt of your order, but just in case, we want to be able to reach you! We can make about four of these kits in an average work day, so they are wedged into the normal production schedule pretty tightly.

Control

3 channel - Aileron/Elevator/Rudder. 4th channel tow release optional. Recommended radio equipment includes (4) standard size servos, 1000 to 1200 mah NiCd pack, and standard size receiver (additional standard servo required for tow release). If you're proficient in use of the rudder, computer mixing isn't necessary for any of the control functions. This plane flys a lot like it's full-scale counterpart; it doesn't work without a rudder.
